How to make a ringtone from a video on iPhone
Cut up to 30 seconds from a video, save it as an .m4r ringtone file, and install it on iOS 26 or iOS 18.
Why there are two steps
No app can set your ringtone for you — iOS does not allow it. So a custom ringtone always takes two steps: make the ringtone file, then install it with a tool that iOS provides.
Cut the clip
Pick the video in Tonify and open the ringtone cutter. Trim the part you want on the waveform and listen to it loop, so you hear exactly how it will sound when the phone rings. The 30-second limit is drawn on screen while you trim.
Save the .m4r file
When the clip is right, save it. Tonify writes an .m4r file — the format iPhone uses for ringtones — and puts it in the Files app under On My iPhone › Tonify.
Install it on iOS 26
On iOS 26 the system has its own Use as Ringtone action, and Tonify shows you where to find it. After that, the sound appears in Settings › Sounds & Haptics › Ringtone.
Install it on iOS 18
On iOS 18 the route goes through Apple's free GarageBand app, which can export a sound as a ringtone. Tonify shows you the steps.
Try it on your iPhone
Tonify pulls the audio out of any video as MP3, M4A or WAV, or cuts a 30-second ringtone — converted on your phone, with no upload.
