Lectures and interviews: keep the audio, drop the video

Turn a recorded lecture, interview or talk into a small MP3 you can listen to anywhere — converted on your iPhone, with no upload.

Step by step

  1. Send the recording to Tonify

Pick the video from Photos or Files, or share it to Tonify from the app where you received it. The system picker hands over only the file you choose.

  2. Choose MP3 at 128 kbps

Speech sounds fine at 128 kbps, and a minute takes about 0.96 MB. The estimated size is shown before the conversion starts, so you can check that a long recording will fit.

  3. Listen or share from Files

The MP3 is saved in the Files app under On My iPhone › Tonify. Play it from there, send it to someone, or move it to iCloud Drive.

Long recordings

There is no length limit built into the app; long files take longer and need free space for the output. On iOS 26 a conversion keeps going when you switch to another app; on iOS 18, keep Tonify open while it runs. Because nothing is uploaded, the recording stays on your phone.

Try it on your iPhone

Tonify pulls the audio out of any video as MP3, M4A or WAV, or cuts a 30-second ringtone — converted on your phone, with no upload.
